We were born from the heartbeat of those residing far from Chile who yearn for a profound connection to our heritage. Our mission is to serve as a bridge—a space for community and belonging where our traditions, dances, and identity are shared with pride. In doing so, we ensure the memory of our homeland remains vibrant and enduring within the Canadian landscape.

We are more than a collective; we are a family. We are Chileans who have found in folklore a medium to reconnect with our land. Comprised of professionals, students, and families, we utilize traditional dance and music to preserve our chilenidad (Chilean identity), showcasing the richness, vibrancy, and resilience of our culture to the world.

Chile breathes through its contrasts—from the mysticism of the northern deserts and the vastness of the Pacific to the Andes Mountains, the central valleys, and the indomable spirit of the south and its islands. These elements transform our dances into living narratives—a journey through a diverse geography and histories that celebrate a unique, profound, and vibrant identity.

History

What began as an aspiration to rediscover our essence soon evolved into a ballet with a

definitive purpose: connecting hearts through the universal language of folklore.

In 2025, Mapu Chile was founded by Paula Marilaf and Carlos Garrido. Driven by an ancestral connection to their heritage, they established this forum for the Chilean community in Canada. Our history is defined by the desire to preserve every tradition and disseminate Chile’s cultural wealth throughout Canada and the world, demonstrating that our roots transcend borders and possess the capacity to flourish anywhere on the planet.
